Volunteer Galapagos Islands

Volunteers will be living on the San Cristobal Island working on a controlled plot of land to eliminate introduced / invasive plant species and to restore native and endemic species, growing the plants first in a greenhouse, and then transplanting them to their permanent locations. Volunteers will also be assisting in community projects, such as installing a new water pipeline for the local community and mentoring children on environmental education.

Expected Tasks While Volunteering:
- Removing Invasive Plant Species
- Reforestation Project of Native Plant Species
- Community Work
- Teaching and Mentoring Children

A Typical Day While Volunteering:
Volunteers usually work between Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m to midday and then 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. You will live in a house on the Hacienda itself and the majority of jobs you will be involved in concern reforestation projects and the restoration of habitats as well as community based projects.

Volunteers usually work for five days each week, with weekends off to explore the islands. Days are long and hard and volunteers should be prepared for hot, physical yet rewarding work. Often, the volunteers go into town in the evenings. Evenings not spent in town are quiet and usually spent lounging in hammocks, chatting, listening to music, writing in journals or reading.
