Isla Corazon a community ecotourism and conservation project whose aim is to protect and preserve the fragile mangrove ecosystems on the island. The island is home to many species of mangrove ecosystems and was declared an important Wildlife Refuge by the Ministry of Environment in 2002.
This project aims to use conservation techniques as well as the education of the community to preserve this fragile ecosystem.
Expected Tasks While Volunteering:
- Reforestation of Mangroves
- Maintenance of the Center
- Reforestation of Palms
- Reforestation of Tropical Forest
Why This is Important
Mangroves are a complex ecosystem that form a natural barrier against the sea on the coast. The fragile ecosystem is a breeding ground for baby fish, shells, clams, oysters, crabs, and other sea animals who require the Mangroves to reproduce. When Mangrove forests are destroyed it directly affects the entire food chain and even threatens migratory birds who rely on the area for food with extinction. Already 90% of Ecuadors Mangrove Forests have been destroyed.

Price per month:
- $300 USD per month
- $225 USD three weeks
- $150 USD two weeks
- $95 USD one week
A $50 administration fee is charged once at the start of the program.

- A Work Recommendation Letter
Volunteers also receive discounts on Mountain Climbing and Trekking Expeditions.
Minimum Time Spent Volunteering:
- 1 Week Minimum
(Maximum 4 Volunteers at a Time)
Volunteers will be volunteering between Monday to Friday with weekends free for leisure time or travel around Ecuador. You will have to take your own food to prepare meals in the kitchen facilities provided.
