This volunteer program is no longer available on Ecuador Eco Volunteer while we currently undergo changes to make this organization 100% non-profit.
Volunteers will be living with an indigenous Kichwa Tribe called the Cañarí who are made up of direct descendants of the Incas. This community is nestled in the Andes in a valley called Nizag next to the “Nariz del Diablo” or Nose of the Devil canyon made famous by the Devils Nose Train. Nizag is perfect for the volunteer who require little supervision and like initiating their own projects.
Expected Tasks While Volunteering:
- Organic Farming
- Taking Care of Animals
- Community Work
A Typical Day While Volunteering:
The Cañarí people of Nisag are an ancient culture who speak the local language of Kichwa natively and Spainsh as a second language. Expect to wake up every morning to a fascinating culture that continues the same traditions it practiced during the Incan empire before the Spanish ever arrived.
Why This is Important:
By helping these Indigenous Villages rise out of poverty and become more self sufficient we will be reducing the ‘rural exodus’ of poor farm workers into dangerous slums with high unemployment in the big cities like Quito and Guayaquil. It also helps the community create a more environmentally sustainable way of living by encouraging conservation and reducing the reliance on exploiting the natural resources in the environment for money
